Two Useful Taco Tools

Today is National Margarita Day*.  It's also Tuesday ergo Taco Tuesday.  What a delightful combination. I feel like I have not been OUT for tacos in ages.  So I started scoping the interwebs for the latest and greatest NYC tacos.   The Infatuation sent me to Zagat's list  of 38 delicious NY tacos (helpful tool #1) and after perusing their page, I clicked through to helpful tool #2. Best NYC Tacos By Type BY TYPE.  Brilliant.  Sometimes you're really craving that chicken taco and beef or pork won't cut it.  Alas, your problems are solved.  Have a nice life. I also like this because most taco places offer multiple types of tacos and how can you really compare a veggie taco to a fish taco?  You're right, you cannot. So, keep things consistent and launch an adventure to eat all chorizo tacos next time you plan a taco tour. Buen provecho. *Where do people come up with these?  Who makes them "official"?  Why am I so obs...

The Most Important Meal of the Day

BREAKFAST.....tacos. You don't have to tell me twice.  I believe the breakfast taco originated in Austin, Texas, and has been making moves across the U.S. for year.  The beauty of the breakfast taco is you can make it your own -- a blank corn-tortilla palette.  Like bacon? Prefer chorizo?  Pick your poison. Add it to your taco.  ENJOY. Saveur offered a recipe for a pretty standard "bacon, egg, and cheese" + avocado + potatoes.  What more do you want in a warm breakfast "sandwich"? http://www.saveur.com/breakfast-taco-recipe Go forth and breakfast taco!

Anticipation

My best friend/neighbor has a dog named Nellie.  Over the past few months I've attended Nellie's birthday party, walked through the Farmer's Market with her on Saturday mornings, spent countless hours snuggling on the couch with her, and even invited her to sleepover when her mom was away. This is Nellie! This morning, I saw Nellie across the street and when she noticed me her entire body reacted.  Tail wagging ferociously, she tried to bound into the street without care for the cars zipping by just to great me.  When she finally made it over, we spent about 2 minutes saying hello.  Watching the progression from walking, seeing me, anticipating our reunion, and experiencing it was a lesson in the beauty of raw and unbridled emotional expression.  Dogs just do what they want. I started feeling a bit like Nellie later in the day.  My heart was pounding and my body temperature was rising.  As a thin layer of sweat coated my hands an enormous s...

La Esquina, almost.

Image
On my list of NY Taco/Mexican Restaurants to Try is La Esquina.  It has been on the list since 2011. It is difficult to get a reservation at La Esquina and although I've managed to make 3 (!!!!) on OpenTable, I have had to cancel all of them.  There is an element of secrecy that surrounds La Esquina.  The door to the downstairs restaurant is disguised by two things -- 1.  A walk-in taqueria and 2. An "Employees Only" sign.  To make your way downstairs you must get past the one or two "door keepers"...these are not bouncers...that guard the entrance. Side note: As I read more about La Esquina in preparation for this post, I realized I did not understand the experience in full.  According to web sources the entrance to the restaurant is actually around the corner.  So are there 3 locations that are part of this taco tequila conglomerate?   Yes.  Taqueria and Brasserie and Cafe.  Oh my! Logistics aside, on Saturday night at 12:35 (so...
